The Story
Pine barrel moulding in a 34mm x 12mm profile and 2400mm length adds a traditional triple-curved detail to interior walls, doors, ceilings and furniture. Machined from straight-grained softwood, each length is lightweight, easy to cut on site and ready to paint, stain or varnish.

What it's used for

- Ceiling cornice infill and feature beam decoration
- Cabinet and furniture face detailing where a curved relief profile is required
Fitting and handling
Store lengths flat and off the ground in a dry, ventilated space, and allow 48 hours for the timber to acclimatise to the room temperature before fixing. Secure with oval lost-head pins, a nail gun or a suitable grab adhesive, mitreing external corners at 45 degrees with a hand mitre saw or powered mitre saw for a clean fit. Once fixed, lightly sand with 120-grit paper before applying your chosen paint, primer, varnish or stain for a smooth, consistent finish.
FAQ
What does a barrel moulding profile look like?
A barrel moulding has a convex, outward-curving face flanked by two smaller recessed curves, giving a triple-curve cross-section. The rounded central bead catches light and adds depth to flat surfaces such as panelled walls or door frames.
Can I paint this pine barrel moulding?
Yes. Lightly sand the surface first, then apply a wood primer or MDF primer before your topcoat. The close grain of this joinery-grade pine accepts water-based and solvent-based paints well, giving a smooth painted finish once filled and rubbed down between coats.
How many lengths do I need for a room?
Measure the total linear run of the area you are trimming, then divide by 2.4 metres per length and add around 10 to 15 per cent for mitre waste. For a typical 3m x 4m room dado rail run of approximately 14 linear metres, you would need around seven lengths as a starting point.
